Save Me from the Super Heroes

Netflix and Marvel announced today that The Punisher is getting his own series on Netflix, which isn’t all that surprising.  After appearing in Season 2 of Daredevil, Jon Bernthal is coming back as Frank Castle.  The nice part about it is that they’ve already established the back story in Daredevil so they can hit the ground running.  However, this marks the sixth collaboration between Netflix and Marvel; Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the upcoming Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders.

I’ve enjoyed Daredevil thus far and thought Bernthal killed it as the Punisher (pun intended). However, I’m worried we are reaching the over saturation point for super heroes.  For TV alone I can think of another half dozen super hero-based shows. On the movie side we are a week away from the highly anticipated Civil War, which is the third super hero movie to hit theaters so far this year.  We still have X Men: Apocalypse, Suicide Squad, and Doctor Strange.   2017 already has a full schedule of releases with a new Wolverine movie, Guardians 2, Wonder Woman, yet another Spider-Man reboot, and a third Thor.  There’s also Lego Batman, but that doesn’t count, right?  Don’t get me wrong, I like super heroes.  But I’m beginning to wonder which super hero is going to the be the one to jump the shark for the entire genre?
